Study Plan

I. Aims 

This program aims to foster high-level talents skilled in Big Data Analysis and Spatio-Temporal Information System, providing high-quality talents for the research institutes and companies specialized in smart city, business model, cloud computing, urban computing and big data driven research on human activities.

II. Eligibility for Admission 

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Earth Science, Planetary Science, Big Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Astronomy or related fields.

III. Program Duration 

The normal study period of Master of Space Big Data Analytics is two years. The maximum study period is three years.

VIII. Study Requirements 

1. Students are required to complete seven core courses from Table 1 during the first two semesters, three elective courses from Table 2 during the second and third semesters, Academic Activities (at least 10 times of attendance) from Table 3 during the first to third semesters, and Literature Review and Thesis Proposal from Table 3 during the third semester, in order to gain 33 credits in total.

2. Students are required to complete a master’s thesis containing original research results in at least 20,000 words and pass the oral defense of the thesis.

3. After finishing the course, students will be assessed by different ways depending on regulations established by the instructor and SSI.


IX. Study Time 

The duration of taking all courses is 18 months and the duration of thesis writing is 6 months. Classes will generally be scheduled at daytime in weekdays or weekends.


X. Graduation Requirements 

Upon approval from the Senate of the University, a master’s degree will be conferred on a student when he or she has: 

1. Completed and met the requirements prescribed in the study plan of the program within the specific study period, and achieved a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or above (excluding thesis)

2. Abided by the regulations of the University

3. Cleared all fees and charges and returned all University’s property and equipment borrowed


If students pass all courses required in Tables 1, 2 and 3 above with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above, but fail to submit or pass the oral defense of the thesis during the specified period, he/she can only get a completion certificate.
